Karo Barbeque Sauce

For some reason, we do not eat a lot of grilled food with red barbeque sauce.  I have no idea why.  We will eat chicken about once a year with a red bbq sauce.  I simply prefer the vinegar based sauce that my grandmother always used, more like the sauces found on most fire department barbeques.  This recipe seems like a good old fashioned, basic red barbeque sauce.  Learn to adjust recipes to your liking heat and spice wise.

Karo Barbeque Sauce

½ cup Karo All-Purpose Syrup

¼ cup finely chopped onion

2 T. chopped parsley

1 bay leaf

¼ tsp. oregano

2 T. Mazola corn oil

2 (8 oz.) cans tomato sauce

1 clove garlic (finely chopped)

¼ tsp. salt

Pepper to taste

Heat oil in skillet over medium heat.  Add onions and sauté until tender.  Stir in remaining ingredients.  Bring to a boil, then cover and simmer 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
